Inspired by St. Paul who is considered the first Christian hermit. He fled persecution to live a life of prayer and solitude in the Egyptian desert for nearly 100 years. God sustained him miraculously, sending a raven with bread and protecting him from the elements. His life inspired the birth of monasticism and drew holy men like St. Anthony to follow in his footsteps.
